Flux Mobility delivers nine all-electric all-wheel drive vehicles to the Basel Fire Department.
Winterthur, January 8 – Since December 20, 2024, nine all-electric all-wheel drive vehicles have been in use at the Basel professional and volunteer fire department.
With the introduction of nine all-electric all-wheel drive vehicles, the Basel Fire Department is concluding a chapter in its 2020+ vehicle strategy and setting new standards for sustainable mobility. This decision is in line with the climate strategy of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to "net zero" by 2037.
The first all-electric all-wheel drive vehicle was handed over to the Basel Fire Department in August 2023 as part of an intensive test phase to prove its performance under real conditions. It is a special vehicle for high-altitude and deep-water rescue, which has been specially optimized for all-wheel drive. This ensures that the vehicle can master almost any incline in Switzerland, even when fully loaded and in difficult weather conditions. More traction also means more safety for the emergency services.
The climate concept developed by Flux ensures a constant, pleasant ambient temperature regardless of the weather. This enables the firefighters and their sensitive equipment to work optimally under all operating conditions and keep a cool head.
Fire engines are generally used on short journeys and under heavy loads. Extensive tests were carried out, including efficiency tests of the electric drive, load tests at full load, braking behavior, blue light operations (190 kW/ 258 hp) and the maneuverability of the vehicle.

The vehicles were developed together with the customer in close cooperation with the body manufacturer and specialist, Tony Brändle AG, in the field of fire department, ambulance, and police vehicles.
