New on Bremen's roads: Two electric refuse collection vehicles from Flux Mobility.

Winterthur, November 14 – Die Bremer Stadtreinigung (DBS), Bremen's municipal waste disposal services, has expanded its fleet with two emission-free vehicles from Flux Mobility. The new electric vehicles were officially presented on Bremen's market square on November 11 – a significant step in the electrification of waste collection and street cleaning as part of Bremen's climate protection strategy. Attendees included Kathrin Moosdorf, Senator for Environment, Climate and Science (SUKW), and representatives from the Beteiligungsgesellschaft Abfalllogistik Bremen GmbH (ALB), a waste logistics company.

Flux Mobility's mission is to develop emission-free commercial vehicles that are easy and flexible to use in urban areas. "With the first two electric refuse collection vehicles of this size, we are sending a strong signal for achieving our climate protection goals. The cross-border cooperation worked very well, and all our needs could be taken into account in the vehicle configuration," says Daniela Enslein, board member at Die Bremer Stadtreinigung and Managing Director of ALB and Strassenreinigung Bremen GmbH (SRB), Bremen's street cleaning services.

Powerful and Individualized.

The new vehicles, featuring a refuse compactor body, a permissible total weight of 6000 kg, and a capacity of around 4.5 m³ for approximately 1,100 kg of load, are in operation on Bremen's streets four to six days a week. They empty refuse bins for mixed municipal waste at highly frequented locations, covering 80 to 120 kilometers daily on their routes. A special feature of these vehicles is the electric power take-off (ePTO), which ensures the energy supply to the body. The ePTO enables the refuse compactor body to be operated independently of the electric motor, minimizing throttling and idling losses. This power-on-demand technology contributes to energy efficiency and reduces operating costs. The vehicles are compact, maneuverable, and impress with their low-noise operation in the urban environment. The battery capacity is 112 kWh, and the top speed is 89 km/h. The vehicle body was developed in collaboration with Zoeller-Kipper GmbH, a leading manufacturer of high-quality refuse collection vehicles.

Fast service support through local partners.

With Tiemann Truck & Bus GmbH as a service partner in Bremen, it is ensured that maintenance and repair work can be carried out quickly. The local staff are the first point of contact for service inquiries in this region.

Malwin Haas, Business Development Manager Flux Mobility "The close cooperation with Bremer Stadtreinigung and our partners such as Tiemann Truck & Bus GmbH and Zoeller-Kipper GmbH has enabled us to jointly implement the requirements for a modern and environmentally friendly waste disposal solution in a precisely fitting manner. Through the continuous exchange, we were able to ensure that the new electric vehicles are not only emission-free, but also optimally adapted to the operating conditions in Bremen. This project shows how we can advance sustainable mobility solutions in urban areas step by step through cooperative approaches."
