Winterthur, March 20, 2025 - The Hamburg Fire Department is one of the first major fire departments in Germany to take the step towards electromobility. Two fully electric rescue ambulances (eRTW) from Flux Mobility have been in test operation for a month now - a strong sign of innovation and sustainability in the rescue service.
The Hamburg fire department is one of the pioneers of electromobility in the emergency services and is relying on pioneering technology with the state-of-the-art eRTW from Flux. The vehicles were developed in collaboration with WAS Wietmarscher Ambulanz- und Sonderfahrzeuge specifically for the high demands of the rescue service.
Ambulances must be ready for action around the clock, meet strict safety standards and function reliably in any emergency situation. In order to test the eRTW's suitability for everyday use, the vehicles will be stationed at several fire and rescue stations in a trial run lasting up to two years - from densely built-up inner city areas to the port area with special logistical challenges to rural peripheral zones with longer access routes.
The all-electric ambulances offer a powerful, sustainable solution for demanding everyday operations. They combine a quiet, emission-free drive system with the usual reliability of conventional emergency vehicles. Their ergonomic equipment and intuitive operation improve cooperation during operations and increase comfort for patients and emergency personnel.
"Our fully electrically powered emergency vehicles are an important step towards an even more powerful and future-proof Hamburg fire department. We are proud to put these vehicles, which have been specially adapted for Hamburg, into operation. This project shows that modern drive technology offers numerous advantages for emergency response in a major city."
Flux Mobility AG, founded in April 2021 and based in Winterthur, develops high-quality light commercial vehicles with innovative, emission-free drive technologies. It also produces special vehicles. The basis for this is a flexible platform concept that enables the one-to-one replacement of diesel vehicles. Flux is thus playing a key pioneering role in the sustainable transformation of industrial mobility and is helping companies to exploit the potential of electromobility. Flux Mobility's customers include several of the largest municipal companies in Switzerland and Germany.
