Winterthur, November 14 - Bremer Stadtreinigung (DBS) has added two zero-emission vehicles from Flux Mobility to its fleet. On November 11, the new electric vehicles were ceremoniously presented on Bremen's market square - an important step in the electrification of waste collection and street cleaning as part of Bremen's climate protection strategy. Among those present were the Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science (SUKW), Kathrin Moosdorf, as well as representatives of the holding company Abfalllogistik Bremen GmbH (ALB).
Flux Mobility has made it its mission to develop emission-free commercial vehicles that can be used easily and flexibly in urban areas. "With the first two electric waste collection vehicles of this size, we are sending a strong signal for achieving our climate protection goals. The collaboration across national borders worked very well, and all our needs were taken into account in the vehicle configuration," says Daniela Enslein, Member of the Board at Die Bremer Stadtreinigung and Managing Director of ALB and Strassenreinigung Bremen GmbH (SRB).
The new vehicles with a waste compactor body, a permissible total weight of 6,000 kg and a capacity of around 4.5 m³ for approx. 1,100 kg of load - are in use on the streets of Bremen four to six days a week. They empty garbage cans for mixed municipal waste at busy locations and cover 80 to 120 kilometers a day on their rounds. A special feature of these vehicles is the electric power take-off (ePTO), which supplies the body with energy. The ePTO makes it possible to operate the waste compactor body independently of the electric motor, minimizing throttling and idling losses. This power-on-demand technology contributes to energy efficiency and a reduction in operating costs. The vehicles are compact, maneuverable and impress with their quiet operation in urban environments. The battery capacity is 112 kWh and the top speed is 89 km/h. The vehicle body was developed in collaboration with Zoeller-Kipper GmbH, a leading manufacturer of high-quality refuse collection vehicles.
Having Tiemann Truck & Bus GmbH as a service partner in Bremen ensures that maintenance and repair work can be carried out quickly. The local employees are the first point of contact for service requests in this region.
Malwin Haas, Business Development Manager Flux Mobility "The close cooperation with Bremer Stadtreinigung and our partners such as Tiemann Truck & Bus GmbH and Zoeller-Kipper GmbH has enabled us to jointly implement the requirements for a modern and environmentally friendly waste disposal solution. Through constant exchange, we were able to ensure that the new electric vehicles are not only emission-free, but also optimally adapted to the operating conditions in Bremen. This project shows how we can advance sustainable mobility solutions in urban areas step by step through cooperative approaches."
Flux Mobility AG, founded in April 2021 and based in Winterthur (Switzerland), develops high-quality light commercial vehicles with innovative, emission-free drive technologies. It also produces special vehicles. The basis for this is a flexible platform concept that enables the one-to-one replacement of diesel vehicles. Flux is thus playing a key pioneering role in the sustainable transformation of industrial mobility and is helping companies to exploit the potential of electromobility.
Flux Mobility's customers include several of the largest municipal companies in Switzerland as well as the first companies in Germany.
Bremer Stadtreinigung (DBS) is responsible for waste management and street cleaning. It is responsible for the collection, disposal and recycling of waste as well as the maintenance of public streets in the city of Bremen. As part of its duties, DBS also carries out winter services and operates the recycling and green stations in Bremen. The company is committed to sustainability and is increasingly focusing on modern and environmentally friendly technologies, such as the use of electric vehicles in street cleaning, in order to reduce CO₂ emissions.
